We’re excited to share that the
Willie Nelson and Friends Museum is now the new
Legends of Country Music Museum

Welcome, friends! We’re so glad you’re here.

If you’ve been a part of our journey over the last 45 years, you already know there’s a lot of heart and history behind what we do. And if you’re new, well, let us share our story with you - it’s a tale of music, memories, and a love for all things country music - especially traditional country music. And now we've begun yet another new chapter in our great history....

Where It All Began

Back in 1979, Jeanie and Frank Oakley, personal friends of Willie Nelson, opened the doors of the Willie Nelson General Store originally located in Madison, TN. It was more than just a store, it was the beginning of a long celebration of Willie Nelson’s career as well as a gathering place for many of Willie’s great songwriter friends like Hank Cochran and fellow artists like Faron Young, Webb Pierce and many others. If you're interested in more of our history take a look at this page.

Over the years, we’ve had the privilege of sharing stories, memorabilia, and unique treasures with fans from all over the world. Many of you have walked through our doors, not just as visitors but as part of our extended family.

As the years have passed, our collection has grown far beyond Willie himself. Thanks to generous contributions, special friendships, and our connections in the country music family (and the stars who helped create it) we’ve been fortunate to welcome many more "friends" of Willie into the museum.

From personal artifacts of legends like Johnny Cash and Patsy Cline to unique memorabilia from songwriters and country music artists spanning several decades, our museum has become a place where the stories of countless country icons are not just preserved – but celebrated!

A New Chapter

As much as we’ve cherished our roots, the time has come for us to turn the page and begin a new chapter. With Willie’s blessing and understanding, we’re evolving into something even bigger and broader: the Legends of Country Music Museum.

This change allows us to expand our focus and welcome even more of country music legends. It’s our way of keeping the spirit of traditional country music alive and sharing its incredible history with future generations. Rest assured, our love for Willie and his immense contributions remains front and center and you’ll still find plenty of tributes to him here. But now, we’re also shining a spotlight on the many other icons who have inspired countless fans around the world.

What’s New

With this evolution, you can expect exciting updates in the coming months to the museum experience! We’re developing new exhibits and refreshing old favorites to make your visit even more engaging. Starting in 2025, we’re thrilled to showcase some incredible new displays, including Hank Williams, Jr.’s one-of-a-kind 1986 custom Dodge "Bocephus" pickup truck  - complete with its own bar!

This extraordinary piece of history is just one example of the unique memorabilia we’ll be featuring from many country music legends. Additional exhibits will highlight the rich history and personal stories of other great artists, ensuring there’s always something new to discover.

Our gift shop is stocked with unique souvenirs and gifts that celebrate country music in all its glory. Whether you’re looking for a keepsake or a gift for a fellow fan, you’re sure to find something special.

Thank You for Being Part of Our Journey

We couldn’t have made it this far without you, our loyal visitors and supporters who keep coming back year after year. Your stories, your laughter, and your love for country music are what keep us going. So welcome aboard as we begin the “next chapter” and join us on this exciting new journey as the Legends of Country Music Museum.

We’re proud to say we are still family owned with the same great team and we’re excited to welcome you back time and again. There are even more exciting things on the horizon, so stay tuned. Together, we’ll keep the music playing and make sure the great country music memories remain alive!
